V Magazine is celebrating Naomi Campbell with the unveiling of its Winter 2024 Issue #151 installment. Across a duo of covers, Naomi appears before the lens of photographer Sølve Sundsbø. Make no mistake that Harper’s Bazaar Italia is one of the very few magazines we fawn over. Issue after issue, editor Daria Veledeeva continues to outshine the competition with an effortless ease. Covers with Apolline Rocco Fohrer, Rianne van Rompaey and Penelope Ternes over recent months have impressed us to no end. The title’s April 2024 installment is no different, eleven issues into the triumphant relaunch. Veledeeva throws not one but a trio of undeniably gorgeous covers our way this month. Cover one is photographed by Sølve Sundsbø and features the magazine’s returning cover girl Alix Bouthors in a headpiece from Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda. The second cover option is also captured by the Norwegian photographer, with Rosalieke Fuchs wearing a creation from Christian Dior Haute Couture while the third sees He Cong make an appearance via the lens of Ben Toms in Ferragamo.

If like us and you visit your local newsstand on the regular, you will no doubt be fairly used to Victoria Beckham greeting you, splashed across the covers of just about every major publication. From the covers of Vogue (Mrs. Beckham recently scored her 31st Vogue cover appearance via Vogue France) to the covers of Harper’s Bazaar (and everything else in between) – Victoria has covered them all. As a result, we aren’t at all surprised to see the fashion mogul make a return to the cover of Allure for December 2023. Almost a whole decade after her last, Victoria is welcomed back onto the beauty-focused magazine for a fourth time, as she poses for photographer Sølve Sundsbø in a glitzy Balenciaga dress.

Yet despite the seemingly best efforts of everyone on set of the cover shoot, members of theFashionSpot forums weren’t so smitten with the end result. “Why are they wasting money on this?” asked blueorchid.

“This is wrong. You shouldn’t be able to be 30 years in the spotlight unless you truly deserve it,” shared a disapproving KaKe.

Also far from impressed was forum member vogue28, commenting: “Sølve Sundsbø has produced some pretty incredible beauty portraits, not sure why this turned out to be such a disaster! I do like the coloring and the styling for a December cover but the spotlight effect doesn’t work and it feels somewhat… cold and sterile.”

To finish her tenure, Bailey welcomes Gigi Hadid back for a fourth time on the magazine’s April 2020 edition. One of 2019’s top cover models, the elder Hadid sister gives us drama and glamour for the newsstand cover shot (below) striking a pose in Givenchy haute couture and rocks Chanel haute couture on the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump), both picked by George Cortina, before the lens of Sølve Sundsbø.

Bailey is definitely going out on a high note. “Can’t believe it! A great, not gimmicky fashion cover,” applauded kokobombon.

“I’ve always enjoyed Gigi for Bazaar. Love this,” raved MON.

But not everyone agreed. “The weird fit of the corset is all I can look at and then how the headpiece bow gives Gigi those dreaded Ariana Grande cat ears. I wish it was more elegant, if that makes sense. There are a couple of missed details that ruin it for me because if you’re going for minimal, it has to be near perfect,” critiqued dodencebt.

We love a good OTT cover, but there’s also a time and place for minimalism on magazines. As we enter a new year (not to mention a whole new decade), Vogue Spain decides less is more for its January 2020 installment. The Spanish fashion bible has been riding a wave of success lately, delivering a plethora of dazzling covers starring Karlie Kloss, Birgit Kos, Dua Lipa, Vittoria Ceretti along with Irina Shayk and Adriana Lima. Now the mag starts the new year off right with Edie Campbell wearing Prada for the chic and clean cover shot captured by photographer Sølve Sundsbø.

Our forum members loved the mag’s stripped down approach. “So elegant, simple and subdued. It’s so eye-catching! Edie looks terrific. Vogue Spain is on a bit of a roll,” praised KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Love everything about it, even the hair. This is 90s done right. Just last month Karlie brought the drama so I’m perfectly fine with something a bit plain for January,” approved Benn98.

“Nothing groundbreaking, but gorgeous nonetheless. Sometimes less really is more cause despite being a simple studio shot, it’s one of the best covers of the month. It’s very 90s indeed…” noted aracic.

“So simple yet so incredibly beautiful and Edie is just gorgeous here. What a great clean, fresh way to start 2020!” heralded justaguy.

“I love this! The color palette is divine, the grays and soft peach are so beautiful together. Always love seeing Edie and I appreciate the minimal styling paired with the grungy, messy hair,” raved Blayne266.

But not everyone was feeling it. “It looks like she just got out of bed, had a shower and then put on whatever she could find,” an underwhelmed Nomar critiqued.

Bertrando3 wasn’t overjoyed with the outcome, either. “What the HELL is this? Can’t believe it’s a Vogue cover.”

All the big-name celebrities are flocking to ELLE, largely due to the fact that Nina Garcia has propelled the magazine to new heights since she took over the reins of the American fashion glossy back in 2018. Just this year, Garcia gave covers to Jennifer Aniston, Ashley Graham, Gigi Hadid, Indya Moore, Lizzo and a whole host of others. She continues to impress as we wave goodbye to 2019 by picking Lady Gaga for the mag’s December 2019 cover. Decked out in Marc Jacobs, the singer/actress/makeup mogul returns to the cover a year after her last appearance, posing before the lens of photographer Sølve Sundsbø in grand style.

The majority of our forum members had nothing but praise for Gaga’s latest cover. “In a sea of hideous December covers, this one is certainly a win in my book. It’s festive and fun despite being a simple studio portrait. Gaga looks absolutely beautiful…” raved aracic.

“Lady Gaga in Marc Jacobs is a winner in my book!” heralded GERGIN.

“This is a very good cover in my book! It feels December, but without it being too cliché,” proclaimed [Piece Of Me].

Sharing the same sentiment was LastNight: “I love this. It’s overly styled, overly sweet and yet it works perfectly. The cover will undoubtedly pop on the newsstand and it has a festive quality to it without relying on red, green or gold.”

“I’m not mad at it at all. They actually managed to deliver a cover that’s very Gaga and yet a kind of fresh take on her. It should stand out well on newsstands,” said MyNameIs.

But the cover didn’t suit everyone’s taste. “Nothing looks as if it fits, in any sense of the word. The clothes don’t fit her, the makeup doesn’t fit the clothes, the hat doesn’t fit the season. The only saving grace is her confidence in being able to carry off the most ludicrous of looks,” noted tigerrouge.

Benn98 was in the same frame of mind. “Not for me, the makeup is too much, especially the Jessica Rabbit lips. And that shade of yellow is quite ugly. We’ve been seeing a lot of hats on covers and none of them seem to get it right.”

Despite Harper’s Bazaar not being the most creative, cutting edge or riveting fashion magazine on newsstands, Glenda Bailey still has some serious pull with the A-list crowd. In 2019 alone, the mag has counted Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Rihanna, Jennifer Aniston, Serena Williams and Demi Moore as Harper’s Bazaar cover stars. Angelina Jolie helps the publication close the chapter on 2019 by returning to the American title for the double December/January edition a little over two years after her last appearance. Photographed by Sølve Sundsbø with Patrick Mackie on styling duties, the actress stars on the newsstand cover (below) wearing a barely visible gold chain Oscar de la Renta dress. For the striking subscribers’ offering (after the jump), Angelina covers up with a white veil.

But our forum members won’t be dashing down to the newsstand anytime soon. “I find the composition and cropping most criminal. How on earth is Glenda Bailey allowed to prosper? And Angelina’s covers are becoming painfully generic. Fail!” Benn98 exclaimed the moment the cover dropped.

“The first cover is just so bad and really unflattering,” echoed Nomar.

“She looks possessed on the cover,” mikel pointed out.

Lola701 wasn’t excited by the outcome, either: “It’s quite terrible! It’s so terrible that it becomes funny!”

“Sølve Sundsbø and team failed to deliver the goods with this one. Yet I can admit the subscribers’ cover is far superior as opposed to the atrocious newsstand alternative! Angelina looks…frozen and static (just like me sitting here in total shock over how bad this all is),” voiced vogue28.

“A softer expression — a hint of a smile — would have gone a long way, but I’ll still take this shot over many of the other covers they’ve produced this year,” reasoned tigerrouge.

Fiercification was one of the few dissenters. “I’m honestly not mad. Her expression is a bit tragic on the cover, but at least there are nice shots in the veil. And thank God she’s not dressed like an executive again, for once!”
