Make no mistake D la Repubblica stays winning. Under the tutelage of former Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Emanuele Farneti, recent covers featuring Mariacarla Boscono and Lilli Cummings have commanded our attention completely. Volume #4 of D la Repubblica‘s ‘the BIG d’ offering is here for 2024. The limited-edition special collector’s issue is printed in a large format, two issues in one, and spread over 392 pages. Farneti welcomes back Rianne van Rompaey as a cover girl, mere weeks after her last. The Dutch beauty takes Sicily for the occasion, and joined by her fellow model friends throughout the Karim Sadli-shot shoot. For cover one (below), Rianne is styled by Jane How sporting a vintage bikini. For cover two, Rianne poses alongside Mica Argañaraz, Julia Nobis, Kiki Willems, Jonas Glöer, Leon Dame, and Paul Hameline.

“They are best friends in their private lives. It’s a great cover. Farneti is doing an amazing job,” forum member BelkaniStaCouture commended.

“Skinny besties unite. Both covers are quite nice, I have no doubt that Sadli did a fantastic job here,” applauded aracic.

“Both covers are nice but it seems more suitable for the summer, not winter…” voiced Xone.

Not everyone was so forthcoming, however. “Depressing,” described Xone upon checking out the covers.

“The same people over and over. This cover does nothing for me,” GivenchyAddict confessed.

Emanuele Farneti continues to make big strides as the editor of D la Repubblica. Issue after issue, we here at theFashionSpot, are often left in a constant state of awe over both the magazine’s front covers and contents. Make no mistake, Volume #1 of D‘s fashion issue installment for 2024 is no different. Farneti went all-out for the occasion, enlisting a handful of top models from DNA Models as cover stars. A whopping 21 covers feature models Rianne van Rompaey, Saskia de Brauw, Malgosia Bela, Adwoa Aboah, Natalia Vodianova, Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmermann, Linda Evangelista, Julia Nobis, Doutzen Kroes, Carolyn Murphy, Guinevere van Seenus, Imaan Hammam, Emily Ratajkowski, Devyn Garcia, Kiki Willems, Lily Kebede, Deva Cassel, Anja Rubik, Edie Campbell and Mica Argañaraz. The girls pose within Robin Galiegue’s photographic studio, with Jacob K reporting for styling duties and the results are nothing short of spectacular.

“This is how you do multi-covers. Drive me crazy with indecisiveness over which cover to buy! They look good together and none of them are bad,” raved aracic.

“Wow, there’s not a single bad cover! Loving them all. Malgosia’s is my favorite, though. Stellar casting,” applauded forum member thiago.

Fiercification commented: “Robin Galiegue is the don! Finally a new photographer who understands fashion. All the covers are wonderful but I’d have to go with Malgosia, Adwoa or Karen I reckon.”

“Amazing covers. The styling is super sharp and elegant,” admired Alquimista.

“Completely blown away, just like everyone else, over how fantastic each and every cover is! So much beauty, so much splendor and so much fabulosity. Almost an impossible task to pick just one favorite and I wouldn’t even know where to start,” enthused vogue28.

Saint Laurent F/W 2021.22 by Juergen Teller

Since Summer 2019, we’ve been living for Juergen Teller as Saint Laurent’s campaign photographer. From Aylah Peterson and Binx Walton photographed in Arizona for Summer 2020 to Freja Beha Erichsen, Debra Shaw and Laetitia Casta posing in Paris for Fall 2020, Saint Laurent’s ads supply total escapism. Teller is back for Winter 2021 whisking us off to a remote part of Iceland where Alyda Grace, Anok Yai, Awar Odhiang, Blessing Orji, Evie Harris, Kiki Willems, Loli Bahia, Mica Argañaraz, Mika Schneider, Sihana Shalaj and Steinberg brave the elements.

The ads divided our forums. “I admire this collection so much. So the idea of the juxtaposition between beautiful clothes with the stunning location is a win to me,” applauded elle_gb.

“Never been one for Juergen Teller, but this is yet another absolute knockout Saint Laurent campaign photographed by Teller! The location is gorgeous, adore the juxtaposition between the rugged Icelandic scenery and Anthony Vaccarello’s high-glam collection,” echoed vogue28.

“It’s actually decent and doesn’t look like Juergen Teller’s work in a very good way,” appreciated amby.

“God, I feel so sorry for the girls. That place must have been freezing!” wrote thiago:).

“I wish this was a bit more aspirational and glamorous. While I find the setting to be beautiful and special, the campaign is missing a bit of fantasy and leaves me feeling as cold as the place it was shot. But maybe it’s just Juergen who I’m not the biggest fan of in the first place,” admitted reese06.

“That beach looks just as arid as Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent in terms of ideas. I will say that the images are quite nice even if Kiki looks like she’s five seconds away from succumbing to hypothermia,” commented YohjiAddict.

Chanel Resort 2020 : Jing, Adut, Fran, Kerolyn, Kiki, Anna & Vittoria by Karim Sadli

We’re still grieving the loss of Karl Lagerfeld so it’s hard to believe we’ve already had four collections and one mainline advertising campaign since his departure. The Chanel Fall 2019 campaign introduced Virginie Viard’s chic aesthetic to the famed French fashion house and the new ads for the brand’s Cruise 2020 collection follow suit. Models-of-the-moment Adut Akech, Anna Ewers, Fran Summers, Jing Wen, Kerolyn Soares, Kiki Willems and Vittoria Ceretti pose before a white backdrop for photographer Karim Sadli as the ladies showcase the travel-inspired collection in the campaign styled by Max Pearmain.

Less is always more, right? The campaign divided our forums. “Absolutely terrible products. I never thought I’d see the day that Chanel looked cheap, but here we are! The jackets look like they’re made of terry cloth, then they’re styled with those $2 leggings. To top it off is a belt made of leftover chains and gift wrap ribbons. What a disaster!” proclaimed GivenchyHomme.

“Karl knew how to pull this off, but unfortunately these people don’t. You can’t have uneventful clothes and an uneventful campaign. Had they used some more dynamic poses, like Max Mara, something playful and fun, this could’ve been a fantastic campaign because it would be harder to notice the weak clothes that look like knockoffs,” aracic ranted.

Benn98 was also unimpressed. “The looks in the first shot don’t seem very far from Escada. Didn’t pick that up from the runway collection. Not a great sign for Chanel. And these shots seem far too commercial.”

But not everyone was unhappy with the outcome. “It’s not bad. It’s not offensive. But it’s not very inspiring. I seriously get a vibe that Virginie is just a palate cleanser before they appoint a new CD who will take Chanel in a new direction. Everything about her creative choices is textbook. Beautifully executed. Well-designed. But not much to desire,” reasoned TaylorBinque.

“Max Pearmain doing Chanel! I’m here for it… I think the campaign perfectly evokes the spirit of some of Karl’s best and simpler campaigns at Chanel,” testified Lola701.

“The black and white portraits are the best,” noted dfwn2n.

Now that New York Fashion Week Spring 2019 has wrapped up and the clothes have been properly scrutinized, it’s time to talk numbers. Specifically, the number of runways models that walked this season in the Big Apple. Eleven catwalkers came out on top and seven of them were women of color. While some top performers are well-known in the modeling world, a few are still making names for themselves (but an appearance on this list might help their cause).

Find out if your favorite made the list in the slideshow above as we count down New York Fashion Week’s top models for Spring 2019.

In case you couldn’t tell by all the Diversity Reports, inclusion is pretty important to us. We love seeing a variety of races, sizes, gender identities and ages on the runways, in addition to killer clothes. So we are super thrilled to reveal that the top model of this season is a woman of color. South Sudan’s own Shanelle Nyasiase walked for an impressive 43 designers, taking home the top prize this time around. Actually, half of the top 12 were women of color. And while there were a few holdouts from the New York list, a good portion of the ranking models on this countdown didn’t register in the Big Apple. See how many runways your favorite catwalker conquered above.

Vogue Japan March 2018 : Luna, Lexi, Kiki, & Selena by Luigi & Iango

Japan sure does love a good group shot on the cover, once again turning to its winning formula for March 2018 (just as long as we don’t get a repeat of August 2017‘s crowded shot, we’re good). After a magical Gisele Bündchen cover last month, photographic duo Luigi & Iango are back with a handful of models for Japanese Vogue‘s latest cover shoot. Luna Bijl, Lexi Boling, Kiki Willems and Selena Forrest pose in various pieces from Louis Vuitton, styled by Anna Dello Russo.

For the most part, our forum members weren’t here for it. “When will VJ stop with this group cover? Seem like everyone under the sun has a Vogue Japan cover now,” commented djowodjo30.

“VJ has been obsessed with group covers lately,” added Lausanne.

“I’ve gotten used to, and even like these VJ signature class photo covers,” Phuel proclaimed.

Apple wasn’t exactly impressed, writing, “Nope, I don’t like it. Lexi looks so angry, Kiki looks scared and Selena looks bored (as usual). Only Luna looks good, that girl was born to be in front of the camera!”

It soon became evident that one model, in particular, was working a little harder than the rest. “The most boring and uninspiring models of this generation – except Luna. The girl is such a star. My eyes went straight to her. She’s the only one delivering. Should have been just her,” stated guimon.

“Wow! Luna blew me away. She’s so mesmerizing,” liv4beauty noted.

Valentine27 felt the same way: “Luna is a star and it shows here. Quite impressive.”

“The Luna Eclipse!” declared Breathless.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that when you write a song about Donatella Versace — or her luxury brand — the Italian fashion mogul is bound to take notice. Lady Gaga’s “Donatella” earned her a public thank you letter care of Just Jared; Bruno Mars’ “Versace on the Floor” just got its own live-action tribute.

In a minute-long music video, Donatella and a crew of glittery goddesses — among them Candice Swanepoel, Natasha Poly, Hana Soukupova, Kiki Willems, Binx Walton, Alexandra Micu and Hiandra Martinez — lip sync along to Donatella’s “special friend” Bruno’s hit single. Everyone’s decked out in head-to-toe Versace (crystals, tassels and feathers abound). Some literally lay on the floor, propped up by Versace-branded pillows. Donatella stands in the middle of it all, looking fabulous as ever in a shimmery nude gown.

Alberta Ferretti tapped Steven Meisel to capture the Spring 2017 campaign last season but opted to hire photographer Tim Walker for Fall 2017. Switching things up even more, the Italian fashion label ditched the likes of Irina Shayk and Vittoria Ceretti for Lexi Boling, Kiki Willems and Lineisy Montero. Sticking with the same studio setting, the trio of models makes magic, with a little help from Carine Roitfeld’s styling.

IMAGE: ALBERTAFERRETTI.COM

Despite the lack of Meisel, our forum members seemed perfectly satisfied with the outcome. “Well this is an interesting approach for Alberta Ferretti. I like it, it’s Tim Walker without being typical Tim Walker. Plus, Carine’s styling enhances the images,” commented dodencebt.

“This is fantastic, Tim at his best, the mood, the styling, the cast, superb,” cheered Riseup.

“What a gorgeous campaign! So visually appealing,” said an impressed Handbag Queen.

One model, in particular, seemed to steal the spotlight. “Clearly, Kiki is the star of the campaign,” enthused forum member ash92.

“Kiki slays. Also love Lexi’s shot in the yellow coat and hat. Lovely photographs,” anlabe32 approved.

Mathiaskatz couldn’t have agreed more. “Kiki steals the show for me,” he echoed in agreement.

“I love the campaign. The casting is great and the models blend in perfectly, the mood is really interesting and unexpected and the clothes look great, better than on the runway in my opinion,” confessed apple.

Members of our forums were quick to descend on the thread. “Looks promising!! I love it when Meisel goes dark and industrial. Cannot say I’m keen on the collage effect, it’s simply not suitable for a cover,” Benn98 commented immediately.

“Classic Vogue Italia. I like it,” added MyNameIs.

Echoing the same attitude toward the cover was MON: “I love this! Classic VI. The VI I love and I love how there’s no caption for it. It’s like the photo itself and Meisel’s name are enough.”

Anlabe32 chimed in, “Seeing the four covers (which is totally unnecessary BTW), I like the one with the smiling girl and the one with Bella the best. And I don’t even like Bella.

“Wow! The editorial is gorgeous! Some of the best Meisel portraits I’ve seen in a while – the closer cropped shots are really just breathtaking!” raved dior_couture1245, soon after the accompanying cover story surfaced.

Yet not everyone was so forthcoming. “I wish they produced more covers with striking images (like portraits a la July 2016), and trying to be less edgy. I see no point here,” sighed a disapproving Srdjan.

“Another disappointing September issue. I guess we should be thankful that it’s not an Instamodel or Lexi [Boling], but this is forgettable and dull. Next. Looking forward to see the October issue, hopefully that’s the [Peter] Lindbergh one,” said an unforgiving vanpersie.
