After all, Giovanna has made the brilliant decision to enlist the likes of photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott and the legendary lensman that is Steven Meisel as campaign photographers. In June it was reported Ariana Grande had been appointed as Swarovski global brand ambassador. The American singer-songwriter and actress’ first gig as ambassador arrives in the form of “The Party of Dreams” Swarovski Holiday 2024 campaign. Grande poses for Mert & Marcus throughout the glitzy campaign offering, dialing up the glamour tenfold for a festive and celebratory gathering like no other.

Meisel’s bedazzling imagery for the Austrian jewelry company has left us completely enchanted, season after season, campaign after campaign. Thankfully, Battaglia welcomes back the master American lensman for his fourth consecutive Swarovski campaign, with the unveiling of the flawless Spring 2024 campaign installment. Inspired by the archetype of Venus, models Irina Shayk, Karlie Kloss, Fei Fei Sun, Imaan Hammam and Abby Champion morph into mythical creatures from the sea, each dripping in layers of layers of Hyperbola jewelry and multi-faceted Millenia crystals in the undeniably stunning and utterly spectacular portrait images.

Whether he’s transforming high-street retailer Zara into something high-end and full of fantasy or photographing ultra-glamorous supermodel covers of British Vogue – Meisel is a master of his craft.

As a result, we aren’t at all surprised to see the legendary American photographer’s partnership with Swarovski proving to be a match made in heaven, going from strength to strength, with the unveiling of each new campaign. Following two dazzlingly successful campaigns for the Austrian jeweler, the brand’s creative director Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert enlists Meisel to capture Swarovski’s Holiday 2023 campaign. Models Sora Choi, Nyawurh Chuol, Karolina Spakowski, Mila van Eeten and Diane Chiu assemble within Meisel’s studio for the occasion, each posing before a timeless grey studio backdrop with beauty stylists Pat McGrath and Guido having also worked their magic on the girls. In the alluring portraits, the beauties showcase designs from Mesmera, Gema, Matrix, Luna and Hyperbola collections.

The campaign immediately caught the attention of our forum members. “Now this is a Holiday campaign! Absolutely stunning!” justaguy declared.

“Swarovski and Meisel is the gift that keeps on giving! I am in love with how festive, glitzy and wintery this feels without being so literal. The whole campaign is executed oh so perfectly, the portraits themselves are flawless but the beauty styling from Pat McGrath and Gudio really is the icing on the cake – spectacular work!” raved vogue28.

MModa simply described the campaign as “spectacular!”

Amazingly so, not everyone was so forthcoming. “Choul’s shot is the best. Not convinced by the rest, everything looks (poorly) airbrushed,” noted thiago.

“The jewelry is overkill, only Chuol seems to pull it off because of the contrast with her skin and the dress,” Urban Stylin pointed out.

“Doesn’t feel like Meisel at all,” zacatecas570 exclaimed.

The women of the Kardashian/Jenner family continue to infiltrate the fashion industry like there’s no tomorrow and sure do mean business. Over recent weeks, we’ve witnessed Kylie Jenner launch a new clothing line and shortly after, it’s now Kim Kardashian showing off her latest collaboration for SKIMS with Swarovski. Founded in 2019, the American media personality and bonafide powerhouse first teamed up with iconic Italian fashion house Fendi back in 2021 and now two years later is partnering up with Austrian jewelry Swarovski for 2023. The joint effort promises to be “a limited edition collection of exquisite body wear and jewellery illuminated with the brilliance of Swarovski crystals to empower every body to shine like an icon” – the perfect blend of both brands.
For the accompanying advertising campaign, Kim enlisted a photographer she feels most comfortable with: Mert Alas. Starring in the glitzy campaign images which ooze nothing but pure unapologetic glamour, the 43-year-old mother of four poses in the studio wearing highly-embellished pieces from the collab (launching November 7) and is joined by models Aweng Chuol, Guinevere van Seenus, Jill Kortleve and Soo Joo Park elsewhere throughout the campaign.

Members of our forums, however, weren’t so sold on the collaboration – or the campaign. “Is this costume jewellery or clothes? Because if it’s underwear, those fancy embellishments will be off with the first wash,” laughed tigerrouge.
“The pieces alone are just Bob Mackie rip-offs, Tisci’s naked dresses at Givenchy (maybe some from Burberry), 90s D&G (which she used a lot for that Spring 2023 curation Kim did), McQueen’s Swarovski pieces (i.e. Spring 2004), the list goes on. A pointless, reductive endeavor that in the end will give her more cash in her pockets.” voiced Cocteau Stone.
“So tacky. Looks cheap. And the SKIMS logo is making it even more tacky and cheap,” chimed in Mrs.T.
Not everyone, however, was so quick to disapprove. “Love everything about this campaign,” admired MModa.
“She looks very J.Lo, with some sort of sixties allure and a spot of Sharon Tate,” ivano pointed out.
Sharing the same enthusiasm was vogue28, replying: “Now you’ve mentioned Sharon Tate I’m even MORE in love with this – very much see Tate in the beauty styling here. I’m like a moth to a flame with anything Kim K-related and think she’s photographed well here, love the lighting and the styling. Yeah… I’m a fan!”

For the Spring 2023 season, Giovanna made the brilliant decision to commission Steven Meisel for the very first time, to showcase Swarovski’s ‘Crystal Metamorphosis’ collection, which saw models Lulu Wood, Hunter Pifer, Avanti Nagrath and Heather Diamond Strongarm decked out in an array of masterful jewelry pieces, plus flawless and masterful makeup looks from makeup artist extraordinaire Pat McGrath in the glossy and high-glam campaign images.

Due to the success of the ‘Crystal Metamorphosis’ campaign, Meisel is back for yet another Swarovski installment, this time documenting and showcasing the the brand’s latest eyewear. Gone is the multi-girl casting, in favor of model Georgia Palmer who goes solo and displays the showstopping cat-eye shades, complete with full cut verdant green crystals adoring each temple.

These distinctive cat-eye sunglasses have been designed for extravagant style. The gold-tone metallic frames are contrasted with deep green lenses and hinged octagon-cut green crystals on each temple. This design is inspired by our bold Lucent family and will ignite your look every time you step outside.

No wonder Swarovski tapped the American beauty for its latest campaign along with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott as photographers. In the playful and colorful images, Bella gazes down the lens evoking different attitudes while dripping in eye-catching creations from the luxurious jeweler.

The campaign ultimately divided our forums. “Tacky,” described mikel the moment the ads dropped.

“Tacky AF, but I’m digging it,” confessed kokobombon.

GivenchyHomme isn’t sold: “They made Bella Hadid look like a CGI character thanks to disastrous retouching. She has great skin so I don’t understand why they went overboard with the retouching. Her freckles would have added a human touch.”

“Bella has a cold, angular beauty that makes her ideal for jewelry campaigns,” noted tigerrouge.

“She looks so mature and I love that kind of beauty,” admitted ivano.

“I like them, they’re certainly bold and eye-catching enough! I’m also a huge fan of how the art direction and concept continue throughout each campaign image. Bella Hadid’s undoubtedly got the ability to serve face and does just that here,” said vogue28.

Artists Craig & Karl were tapped to create a short for Tim Coppens and Creatures of the Wind, utilizing their bold, graphic aesthetic to produce a kaleidoscopic piece that’s positively hypnotizing. Jenny Walton teamed with Wes Gordon and Misha Nonoo, recording herself doing marker sketches of some of their designs before festooning her work with fabric.

Can’t get enough of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show? Neither can the folks at Swarovski. The crystal brand has lent its precious stones for the 12th year to bring some bling to the show, and this time, there’s more sparkle than ever before. For the big event, Swarovski created a look for Lily Donaldson, spangled with 150,000 crystals — more than it’s ever used for a Victoria’s Secret piece before. 

The outfit, consisting of the obligatory bra and panties, also boasted a sculptural corset, fringed skirt and huge butterfly wings. Lily donned the sparkly look for the “Fairy Tale” segment of the show, but you’ll never get to fully experience the gorgeousness of her outfit from the runway. Looks like this deserves to be seen up close and personal.
